After qualifying from Newcastle University, Tony worked in general medicine before training in psychiatry in Edinburgh and Fife, followed by Research Fellowships and Honorary Lecturer at the MRC Brain Metabolism Unit and Edinburgh University.

Tony has been a consultant since 1990, working in Intellectual disability in high secure forensic services, inpatient and community services and has held additional management posts as an NHS Clinical Director and Trust Medical Director. He has worked in the independent sector since 2005, transferring to Cygnet in 2018.

Tony has been a member of the British Neuropsychiatry Association since 1995 and is a founder member of the Faculty of Neuropsychiatry, Royal College of Psychiatrists. He has acted for the CQC as a Second Opinion Appointed Doctor (SOAD) since 1998.

In his spare time, Tony enjoys time with the family, photography, cycling, walking, playing music and, since lockdown, mending vintage typewriters.
