Anchor Point for the family RIPPLES after Brain Injury

Anchor Point for the family RIPPLES after Brain Injury

We are

A national association of strategic influences committed to change that will improve the lives of families after ABI.

Background

Anchor Point was formed in June 2020 in response to a lack of meaningful change for families after ABI that would mean family member needs were finally recognised and met. Anchor Point exists because families continue to be re-traumatised by their experiences within health and social care systems and wider society because their needs are consistently ignored or misunderstood. Despite the decades of research that show why it is important to support families after ABI meaningful change has been slow to materialise.

Our strength is in our collective voice of leading experts that gives us a compassionate insight and understanding of the complexity of brain injury and the impact of this on the family. Through our dedication, commitment and passion we have a unique opportunity to be advocates of change by influencing practice and policy. We will do this in partnership with existing services, stakeholders and communities, working together for the for the benefit of all society.

Anchor point is chaired by Dr Charlie Whiffin, Associate Professor of Nursing, University of Derby & Dr Alyson Norman Co-Chair, Associate Professor in Psychology, University of Plymouth

Our Mission

Organisational structure

Our organisation comprises seven working groups each working to improve the lives of families after ABI. Each group reports to a quarterly reporting committee and the organisation is steered by the strategy group. Each of the working groups, with the exception of strategy, meets every 6-8 weeks and has an open and evolving membership, regularly welcoming new members.
