The National ABI in Education and Learning Syndicate (N-ABLES) has won a prestigious award in recognition for their dedication, compassion and ongoing work supporting educational professionals to gain a better understanding and awareness of Acquired Brain Injury (ABI).
The team is comprised of Dr Emily Bennett, Dr Gemma Costello, Chloe Hayward, Susie Nolan, Petrina Sill, Lisa Turan, Dr Sharon Buckland, Charlotte Giblin, Joanna Woodhouse, Professor Nathan Hughes and Baroness Morris of Yardley.
The N-ABLES team were awarded winners in the Above and Beyond category of the Neuro Rehab Times 2025 Awards at an online ceremony which took place on 19th November 2025.
Dr Emily Bennett, Chair of N-ABLES said, “We are so delighted to win this award, particularly when we were shortlisted along side such brilliant teams and professionals doing incredible work.
We would particularly like to recognise the ongoing importance and impact of our young experts and education professionals advisory groups who really guide our direction and focus.
As a group we believe collaboration is the key to our ongoing growth and progress and we are really thankful to all members of our steering committee, our supporters and to UKABIF for all their ongoing support.”
The Award recognises the dedication and innovation of neuro rehabilitation professionals going that extra mile to improve the lives of those affected by neurological conditions, ensuring they receive the highest quality of care and support.”
N-ABLES was established on the back of recommendations made in the
ABI All-Party Parliamentary Group’s Time for Change Report which pointed to a widespread lack of knowledge in this area for education professionals.
N-ABLES has two advisory groups, the Young Experts (YEBEABI) Group and the Education Professionals (EPAG) Group whose expertise and insights guide the group in their initiatives to ensure the needs of those with firsthand experience are met.
Since being established N-ABLES has produced a booklet ABI Return - Children and Young People with ABI - Guiding their Return to School. They have launched an ABI Passport, a downloadable tool to emphasise the young person’s voice and help teachers understand more about ABI and guidance for concussion.
