09.35 Causes of brain injury in clinical settings and a better understanding of these conditions John Goodden Consultant Neurosurgeon at Leeds General Infirmary will provide delegates with a medical perspective on the common causes of a brain injury in a clinical setting.

10.25 Misinterpretation of scans Daniel Birchall, Consultant Neuroradiologist, Neuroradiology Consulting will look at the misinterpretation of scans with case studies.

11.35 Brain tumours – natural history and non-surgical treatment Martin English, Consultant Paediatric Neurooncologist will provide delegates with an overview of how a tumour develops and treatment available. He will also consider how delays in prognosis or mis-diagnosis will have an impact on the treatment that is available and therefore predicted outcomes.

12.25 Brain tumours - surgery John Goodden, Consultant Neurosurgeon at Leeds General Infirmary will provide a general overview of the principles of neurosurgery, decision making for treatment (surgery/approach/non-surgical treatments) and complications.

13.15 Lunch

14.00 After effects Robin Grant, Consultant Neurologist at Western General Hospital, Edinburgh will discuss the physical after effects of a brain tumour and will be joined by Dr James Tonks, Consultant Clinical Psychologist, Haven Psychology who will look at the psychological after effects of a brain tumour.

15.00 Causation and quantum issues in clinical negligence Dr Simon Fox QC of Serjeants’ Inn will focus on: · Material contribution · Provisional damages · Life expectancy
